Lasik Eye Surgery Prices?

How do doctors determine what Lasik Surgery costs? I just went to TLC Vision for a consult yesterday and they gave me the prices before my consultation (while I was in the waiting room out front). So why can’t I receive quotes from other Lasik surgeons without going through a consultation. This is just a standard procedure. Cost is $1,895 with Tricare Prime discount. for the Platinum package with is Bladeless Lasik. How do I know they aren’t charging me more than the last patient for the same procedure? Does anyone work for a Lasik Surgeon and know how the pricing system works?
And that is $1,895 per eye.

Average LASIK Costs

A report commissioned by AllAboutVision.com from a leading industry analyst in 2008 listed average LASIK costs as:

* $2,105 for all laser-based vision correction procedures in which a single price is quoted.
* $1,662 for non-customized LASIK using a bladed instrument (microkeratome) and excimer lasers that are not guided by wavefront analysis.
* $2,341 for wavefront-guided LASIK using IntraLase.

Note that there can be wide variation in what an advertised price will include. Beware of advertising that, for example, promises "LASIK from $499 per eye." Look for the fine print. Typically, only a few select people are actually eligible for LASIK at prices that sound unusually low, because most eyes require more extensive correction or more follow-up after the surgery.

    I don’t work with a lasik surgeon or are one, but I did recently receive lasik surgery. The reason why they need consultation is the depth that they will have to go to correct your vision or how risky the procedure is for you particularly. If you are going to need special procedures, it’ll be more. If your eyes are worse off than others, it will be more because the surgery will take longer and the laser will be used more. If you are going to require sedatives or such, it will cost more as well. There are also different types of lasik available – like you said, the premium lasik procedures cost more too. There are just too many factors to consider to set a base price for everyone. If you want a really rudimentary comparison, it’s like a shoe: one size would not fit all.

    Honestly, $1,895 is decently cheap too. Mine was a bit more more than that, but then again, my vision was the worst the doctor had ever corrected.
